Power sterring question

Post by rogersmith »

Hi all, OK, gotta get my cabby safetied :(
I'm missing a pulley to get my power steering working!!!
I know, why not just rip the power steering motor and pump out?? Because I live in Quebec and they love making you rip your eyeballs out using chopsticks!!!

They want me to either get the power steering to work or rip out the rack and pinion and replace it with a non power steering rack...

I've called a couple of wreckers and they're not certain what diameter pulley I'm looking for :(

Anybody know this or have a parts list that would list the pulley size?? I beleive the pulley goes onto the water pump, but I'm not certain...

Thanks in advance to all :)

OK, I suggest calling Montgomery Auto Parts in Calgary, Alberta. They are VW specialists and probably have the pully you need.

It should be not too expensive to ship the pat to Quebec and there won't be any issues with Canada Customs.

Here is the URL for their site http://www.4nparts.com/index2.htm

Let us know how you make out.

His problem is not if he wants power steering, but rather he must make the existing power steering work or replace the front end.

Stupid - Yes

He simply needs to find the right pully and get the car through the provincial safety inspection. Then he can once again disable the power steering.

Somewhere I can see why they are being so hard. Quebec drivers have a reputation of being, shall we say, over zealous, this way at least their cars should be safe.
