Got to do some work today.

Have you done so much to the car today that it just doesn't fit into one section, or are you too damn lazy to split it all up? Either way, this is the section for you.

Got to do some work today.

So, this is the first time I ever get to do actual work on the cabby.. Probably shouldnt have seeing is the neck isn't fully recovered yet, but oh well..
1. I dropped the oil pan (NO METAL IN IT, THANK GOD!)
Installed 2.0L oil pump... no more clattering, oil temp good now, i can hold 1 Bar while at idle!

2. Changed side coolant flange,
Water temp sensor,
coolant res.,
terminal pin housing,
thermostat.

Doing this blind is a bitch.. I had a friend help me out, but he knows crap about VW.... Thanks William, for letting me call ya a couple times to ask questions.

Anyway, after getting all of this done, I noticed that I didn't order the front flange with the sensors in it... i just now realized that it is cracked at one of the bolt holes... and is trickling out of there too! DAMNIT!

Now I just take it down on tuesday to get teh top put on, and get her registered, and inspected, and let her sit till the doc says I can drive again.. I had to get it done, I go to doc in 10 days, and the wife startes work next week...

Jimmy, the reasons that the flanges break is that they are over tightened. When I replaced my alst one I got a new flat washer at Ace Hardware, then laid a little silicone red in the grove set the gasket, then covered the outside of the flange and the ears with more silicone. Clean out the holes for the screws, and tighten to the reccomended Torgue I think it was 15 inch pounds..... and in 1.5 years it hasn't cracked yet.

Just don't over tighten. The Silicone will glue it and harden to the block to be another seal, and limits the vibration to the ears......

Jimmy, It was really no big deal lending you a hand, even if it was only over the phone. Glad to hear that you were able to complete everything you set out to today. Sucks about the front flange, but at least that one is right there and easy to get at.

Brian gave some great advice, just be carefull of how much sealent you use as you don't want any excess to get into the water channels and plug them up or worse, get into the radiator and plug that up. A very thin ammount goes a long way.

I'd say after everything today, you should have a beer. Great job. :D
