nice day..

Have you done so much to the car today that it just doesn't fit into one section, or are you too damn lazy to split it all up? Either way, this is the section for you.

80 degrees here in portland today.
didn't have big plans at all but got bored and played with Rubie a bit.
-Got the front sway bar back on.
-fixed the trunk latch and have a working trunk again
-replaced the instrument cluster and have an accurate/working speedo and water temp gauge for the first time EVER (another one of those "things")
-replaced my rear door panels (PERFECT black panels)
-helped my friend remove some old window tint from her 16v GTI

i think there might have been more... was just a bunch of little stuff to play with.

did that today
woke up at 6am, put the top down and drove 3 hours. hung out with family for a few, hopped back in and drove back home.
its that drive that persuaded me to do all the work yesterday. Prior to today the most miles i've put on in one day was the trip home from doing the swap (120 miles). That trip was kinda sketchy. At least, I was sketchy. I had spent 20-some hours in 2 days to do the swap, and as soon as i had it running and timed, i hopped in and drove home. Spent the whole time waiting for some cabby-strophic failure

The top mount made so much of a difference I changed the bottom by the shift linkage and snubber by the starter, made the car feel even more stiff. I cannot believe the effect it has had. If anyone out there has any doubts about the motor mounts in their cars I highly recommend swapping them out. I also put some German (Continental) drive belts on the p/s and alt, quieted that noise right down. Friend of mine picked up a 97 Jetta and brought it around Sunday, beautiful 5 spoke factory alloys, I tried to talk her out of them but she wasn't having any of it. Exactly what I have been looking for for my cabby.
