I just put Ecsta's on the 94 Jetta I picked up for my daughter. Seem to be a good tire, especially for the money.

i know this thread is a lil old, but i'll throw in my $.02

I've got Kuhmo 711s on my car now
got them back in, um, late april or may
now, 711s are just a lil bit harder than the 712s and will have a slightly longer life

the ones on the front already need replacement before winter gets here
they're shot

the feel great on the dry
terrible in the wet.

I am required to make another offering to the Cabby gods, this will be my next monitary sacrifice...

I think you just experienced something similar but I am completely ignorant about wheel modifications. I guess you call them spacers but I need a source to locate something that will center my aftermarket wheels on my hubs. Everytime I have to remove a wheel I can only try to center it but that just don't get it. I know some guys have dealt with this many times but I never have before. You might even know the Cabby inside measurement and then I will have to figure the outside measurement from the wheel. I would even bet this is measured in metric, right? Do you have to have these machined ? Can you buy them in plastic? Is this a common product line that companies offer or is it going to be something I have to have made? Please excuse my ignorance. Now, if we are talking scorpions or coffee I know all about that because I am now Topless cultured.

Bub,

What you need are called Hub-Centric Rings. Your best bet wou ld be this. Take the rims to Discount Tire and they should be able to identify the rim and set you up with the correct hub-centric rings or they should be able to order them. Some come in plastic, others are metal.

As for me knowing the measurement for the VW hubs, I'm afraid that I don't. The issue I'm dealing with is two different things. The rims I picked up are too small in two different areas to fit on a VW. One is the center hub, so I've had to make it begger. i did that with a cylinder hone tool. It's not hard, even if I didn't have the measurement, I'll explain is just a sec. The second issue I had was that the ET of the rim, was too shallow to allow the rim to clear the brake calipers in the front.

So, I ordered hub-centric spacers to help push the rim away from the calipers by 15mm giving them the clearence they needed. that takes care of one issue but now the problem is, is that the spacer doesn't fit the rim either as the center hub on the spacer is the same size as the hub on the car. So I have to make the hole in the rim, big enough to fit the spacer. A few min with a hone tool on the rim and then stop, see if the spacer fits and then back to honing till the spacer does fit. Thats how I got my measurement. It's not the best way to do this, but in my case it worked.

Since you are in the Atl area, we will have to meet up and then I can show you what I'm talking about incase you are still a bit confused. An if you are confused, it's ok, I never delt with rims or anything up untill this and it's taken me a bit to get used to the lingo and measurements involved. it's crazy i tell ya.

I just took the wife out for a spin in the bunny to see how the new tranny would act. Man that 4k adds some bite to that car. She's going to be shifting a lot but who cares, it's fun.

I waited till night though since she only has the new rims/tires on the rear and the snowflakes on the front. This is also the first time the car has really been run since I put the new suspension on as well. Pulled a very sharp right hand turn while in 2nd and slammin on the gas, had to correct the steering pretty quick before I turned the car 360!! The bunny is fun to drive again. Can't wait to finish the front end and let the wife put her back in dialy driver status.

That is great and you get to drive around in the fruits of your hard labor. That is so good. The next thing you know, you will be getting rid of that Rocco and get a His and Her Cabby thing going on. Admit it, the Rabbit has something the Rocco never will have at twice the money. And it always has so much more potential to become...well... a Buck. (That is a male Rabbit for those of you that missed that class in Jr High...Oh ...my bad...middle school.) Damn I am getting old.

Me dump the rocco for a cabby, not in this lifetime. Though thats mainly due to my inability to fit in a cabby very well. That and I enjoy the rocco way more. I'm not knocking the cabby, it's a great car, just not my style. However, the cabby suits the wife to a T and thats all that matters.

Got my hub-centrics.

This is the first time the car has driven without all four wheels vibrating at differant speeds. Got tha car back from the stealership and it finally passed emisions so I'm driving around smiling like Bob

Glad to hear you got the rings and that the car is passing emissions. We are just far enough north that we don't have to deal with emissions just yet.

As for that jackass the killed the judge, officer, court reporter, US customes agent and scared the hell out of many more. I wish they would stone his arse. Or at least let him trip and fall face first into the sidewalk a few hundered times. Unfortunatly that didn't happen, but you can bet serious money he's going to get to ride the hot chair for killing two federal workers and before he gets to the chair, he'll get his arse beat real good in general pop as favors from the guards.
