C pillar / pigtail seals: Correct way to install?

C pillar / pigtail seals: Correct way to install?

I've searched here, Mk1 forums, cabby-info, vortex, youtube, and google in general. I haven't found any good info. How do these go in?

Getting them out was easy because they were destroyed. Loosened tension cable to get access to reinstall. However, I'm not sure which is the correct way to reinstall. The old ones were too far gone to use as a reference.

A makes sense to me, as there is rubber on both sides of the lip, but what do I know (other than that I don't want to do this again)?

Also, just the rubber and screws, or do I need some RTV/silicone in there? If so, where?

rubber outside as in pic 1. It will seal body to seal then seal to top, and body.
No sillycone.
