Fargin won't start
92 digifart.
Will crank, and there is spark at 6btdc It will not run.
What I have tested.
It wouldn't start and there was a fuel leak from a fuel line in the engine bay, it appears that it was the return line. It has been repaired.
There is fuel coming to the fuel rail, I have replaced the Pressure regulator. Cranked the engine and there is suffecient fuel leaving the hose. The Tank Pressurises. I hear the primary pump pump to
Air box restriction...None have a Air hog, and it is sucking air. No difference if I remove it.
I have looked at the time with a timing light. It is firing 6deg BTDC on number on.
Checked the static time. Mark at 0 on the tranny, the number one plug is on the hash. The cam belt is a little above the valve cover corner.
What I have replaced..
Plug Wires, Plugs Bosch Plat 2's
The cap is clean on the inside
the Rotor is good
If I crank it solid, then apply and release the gas. It will try to start. Almost like a flooded car. I took out the plugs and they smelt of gas. but were not overly wet...
I have cleaned all the connectors on the fuel rail hall sender and the ECU.
Help me Mr. Wizards out there......... What could it be....
Last question the fuel line from the pump goes directly in the fuel rail?
as that is the only thing I might have gotten crossed. It is almost like the injectors aren't injecting...... I haven't pulled them yet.

Brian, I read here and on the tex. My initial guess is that you might have an air buble in the return line causing extra pressure to the injectors. That could cause it to flood? Not to sure if thats possible or not.
However, you might try flooring the pedal when firing it up see if you can get it to catch and keep it at some high revs for a min or two.
You also said that you changed the fuel filter as well right? If so, when I changed mine in the rocco I had similair problems. Took me a while to get her back to running and even then it had some acceleration issues. I ended up flooring it in 3rd and took it to redline, never had a problem after that. I figured I had a fair ammount of air in the line and thats what it took to clear it out.
If that doesn't work, run a compression test, make sure there's not more then meets the eye. figuring that you have spark and you say that engine is properly timed, compression is one of the things on a short list that I can think of that would cause this problem. Might also want to check the resistance on the injectors, but if you seem to be getting fuel, I would think that means they are ok.
Keep me posted and let me know if there is anything I can do to help ya out.

Getting close, I pulled all the plugs and out of number one cyl was a wiff of exhaust gas. looking at the plugs, they didn't look wet, and the car tried to start today briefly.
I am going to cut loose the muffler as it could be plugged out the ass I spose it has happened to me before on a toyota.
I am assuming that the exhaust gas would prevent fuel from being injected as there is nothing to be burnt, and that the gas is too much pressure to overcome from the exhaust pressure.
I disconnected the o2 sensor as to see if it woudl start and it did very briefly.....that is when I pulled the plugs to see if they were getting flooded or not.....that is also when I saw the wiff of exhaust gas in my light and it was goming out of a cylinder.....

Sounds like maybe the cat imploaded. Could easily make a "funny noise" as was described by your better half.
I would think cat before the muffler. Could be the muffler though. Might be easier to start there then that cat unless it's been welded rather then clamped.
Keep us posted man.

The cat is welded as it was just put on 3 weeks ago when I got it to pass emissions. As the pipe is a solid piece as in welded all the way from the down pipe to the tail pipe. I was depating about cutting it forward of the cat or aft of the cat. I think you are right William, if I cut it before the cat I can eliminate at least most of the exhaust system.. so I have to cut it twice...Calimus wrote:Sounds like maybe the cat imploaded. don't cut yet........
Brian,
Get out your old vacuum/pressure gauge from way back, the low pressure range one for reading mechanical fuel pump pressure on a carbureted car, you remember those....
Check intake vacuum while cranking, if the exhaust is plugged enough that the car won't start, it won't be able to pull any vacuum either. I don't recall values, compare to a known good unit, one of your running cars.
Pull that blue cap off of the upstream exhaust sample pipe over there to the right of the intake manifold, check pressure there. Figure a max ever of no more than 1/2 to 3/4 PSI, shouldn't see much of any pressure while cranking. Even without a pressure gauge there, if the exhaust is plugged, you'll get a whoppin' big hishing noise out of that port, even while cranking.
If you have air tools, specifically an air hammer, grind a pointy, tapered punch. Poke an internally flared hole between the cat and the muffler, size it to thread it 1/8" pipe. Thread it 1/8" pipe. Screw in an appropriate 1/8" pipe to hose fitting, connect your pressure gauge there, compare back pressure readings with upstream the cat and you'll know immediately if it's the cat or the muffler that is plugged. Close the punched/threaded hole with a 1/8" pipe plug. You might get away with a drilled hole, that doesn't leave much surface for threads. You could drill>thread>test>weld closed if needed.

I had a similar problem with my CIS yesterday, it turned out to be the fuel pump relay under the dash, but you probably don't have something like that. You can check, it's the only one with a fuse on top of it. I managed to get everything working by pulling the relay and jumpering pin 30 and 87. It leaves the pump on continuous, so you have to pull the jumper when you shut down, but it will get ya where you're going and let you know the pump is good. Worth a look anyways.

It pumps 100 ml of fuel in about 3 seconds, and when I remove the pressure regulator it spews fuel every where. I am sure the fuel pump relay works and I have one in the digi fart.
Gonna sawz all the muffler prior to the resonator Ron I would do the punch and drill but it is a whole lot easier to splice the pipe and clamp it than trying to thread a hole laying on my back under the car. The Cat they removed was removed because it was hollow.... so the old cat internals could be what is plugging the thing up...
That is quicker then checking pressures.... I can then use a flashlight to look at the back side of the cat.
Kinda explaines while I had the Airbox apart, I had the son try to crank the car, and I did notice that the Maf never pulled in, as it couldn't suck air. Also by working the Throttle the car would eventually start for a bout 3 seconds, I am figuring that the pressure is equalizing through the intake. But I don't see the hoses swell.....

Yes. so I really wont need a new test till aug of next yearspeedtek wrote:LOL, oh well, it was thought. That sucks you had to toss a cat back on. Do you guys have a yearly emissions test?

Well today was the day that I cut the exhaust off after the cat, and the Bunny fired right up and sounded meaner than hell. I then cut off the resonator and it was hollow as I expected, so now I know it is either the muffler or the pipe after the cat.......Hurrah I have a running cabby......yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeHAWWWWWWWWWWWW.
It has to be the muffler has collapsed internally. I took it off, and it weighs about 40 pounds, (figure it has a couple of cats in it) and I have dropped it and smacked it with the BFH and only little bits of flakes come out.
So off to Pepboys, for some connectors clamps and a muffler, then on ward and upward.......

Spoke too soon...
I cut the exhaust off behine the catalytic perverter and the car started first try and idles great....loud but great.
So I Cut off the muffler and the resonator....
Put it in gear, and the car won't accelerate.
okay may the cat is bad too.
Cut it off
Car wont start, it won't idle.
Took off the fuel regulator, and put on the old one
nada
Put the other back on...
Checked the fuel pump lines I have them right I filled a 500ml bottle in less than 30 seconds.
Ran the battery down, so I am charging it.
Tried to check the timing with the light but as the car won't start shiiiit
I am pretty tuckerd so I will hit it tomorrow.
I will pull all the plugs and replace them with the originals.
I spose the Dist could of gone to crap or the Timing is way off, as that is almost what it felt like too retarded.
I will run to pull-a-part and see if I can get a external pump...as a test.
any and all suggestions are appreciated... ps the cat looks brand spanking new......go figure....it is..
maybe it will fire tomorrow...and I can get a clue....
