black & red body side moldings

Post by 82and92 »

I just bought a nearly new 92 cabby (my 82 is just too finicky). The 92 car has black bodyside moldings with red centerlines. Never saw these before - owner (original) says they are original to the car. Anyone know of black and red body side moldings? Car is white with white top.

I honestly can say I have not ever seen trim on a Cabriolet such as you described-I've just seen the solid black and the black/chrome.

Interesting, have you any pics? And Welcome to TRF!

Welcome to the board!
No, I can honestly say that I have never seen any Cabby's with black/Red mouldings.
Like Kuklaki said, just solid black or black/chrome.

When I got my Cabby (black), I had the black/chrome mouldings. But the front passenger side was missing. So I pulled them all off, got 1/2" black pinstriping and ran it in the moulding grooves to cover the lil holes left behind. Its a good/temporary fix to the problem. :D

My question is I have seen those but not on a cabby, are they the flat rubberised clip on or the two-sided sticky tape kind. On my Diesel bunny and LS model it had the 2sided sticky tape moulding that was Chrome on the edges and tan in the middle. It may have been changed by the owner/ dealer

Red from the factory? No. If the original owner did not do it, then the dealer is the most likely suspect in painting the center of the trim red. :)

I'd love to see pictures. It sounds great.

I have no doubt that the trim is OEM, but it has probably been painted to give that "out of the ordinary" appearence. My 2 cents worth anyway.

Please show us some pictures.

Response to Black/Red trim.

Thank you all for the replies on the red/black moldings. I'll send pictures tomorrow (when I'm back in town and can access my photos).
Center of trim sure does NOT look painted, and all of the ends look like OEM equipment. Maybe we'll know more once you guys see the pix.
