Re: A/C troubleshooting

Thanks Briano, I will go get a 30 amp thermofuse and install it. Trying to followup with your advice on the ac relay. I focused on the E35 ac switch. With the key on I turned the E35 switch to a blue position ,turned the blower fan on and checked the voltage to H2 on the relay by pulling the termina...

Re: A/C troubleshooting

My mistake for sending msgs that were somewhat duplicate. So I will clarify here. I did apply 12v to the supply side of the LPS and the clutch came on! So your note said clutch and LPS are good. Yahoo! Plugging the supply green wire into the supply side without a 12 v jumper clutch does not engage. ...

Re: A/C troubleshooting

Well I am still working on my ac system. Problems I have are; 1. I can't get the compressor clutch to come on. 2. I can't get the fan to work in the high speed. I have been trying to locate the problem and as Briano suggested I think it is in the ac relay. I have jumped pass the ac thermostat switch...

Re: A/C troubleshooting

Well it's been a while since I posted anything. I am still working on trouble shooting my ac system. Briano is right. My problems seem to lie within my ac relay. I am at a loss as how to trouble shoot the relay. Any help would be appreciated. One thing I did was find a corroded 40 Amp overcurrent re...

Re: A/C troubleshooting

Ok I'll see if I can find a short to the No.14 main fuse . And the 5 pn mylar connector. Does this connector connect to the blower directly or to another connector. When I look in the relay area and unscrew the screw that holds the fuse and relay block and pull the entire wire , relay, and fuse hold...

Re: A/C troubleshooting

Now this picture makes sense. No 13 is the relay I have. What keeps the relay from going bad again if I plug in a new one? The fuse that blows is no. 14. Not the 30 amp above the no. 13 relay. Why would that be? I guess my next steps would be. 1.Buy a new no 13 relay or a used one if I can find one....

Re: A/C troubleshooting

Thanks as always Briano. I went to followup on your advice by looking at the relays. The DIY relay replacement showed relay no 5 as the a/c relay. Was this for another model than a 1993 VW Cab. My car shows a relay no 13. Which I happen to have an extra relay 13. I plugged it in and neither worked. ...

Re: Internals of a Heater Valve.

Wow good to know. I just replaced mine and it looks the same. The lever to select hot or cold is still hard to move towards the hotter end of the selector inside the car. I checked at the Heater Valve and it felt like it was stiff there. I put in the lever on the heater cover plate to operate the in...

Re: A/C troubleshooting

:? My ac is not working due to many reasons. Some of my mistakes I think but don't really know. I followed all of the advice to evacuate the system and then shut the Multivalves off to see if it would not loose pressure for 1/2 hour. It passed. So I loaded in 18 oz of R134a freon. The clutch on the ...

Changing ac refrigerant R12 to R 134a

The specs for my 1992 VW Cabriolet show I should put in 40 oz +- 2 oz of R12 refrigerant in the ac system once it is totally evacuated. Is it the same with converting to R 134a refrigerant. Show I use 40 oz of R134a? Also , what is the difference between what the manual calls a Thermofuse 30 amp and...

Re: installing a A/C cut out switch.

You know Briano you a pretty smart guy. I did have trouble with the Hazard warning switch. I can't get it to work . When I turn the HWS off the turn signals work. When I turn it on nothing happens. Meaning the indicator light on the switch doesn't work nor do the lights flash. So I bought a replacem...

Re: installing a A/C cut out switch.

I'll give it a try . Makes sense. So I unnderstand better. Does the turn signal switch circuit run thru the HWS ? So if the fuse for the HWS is out the turn signal light will only glow solid? That's what it is doing? I pulled the wires off the ac cutoff switch and put them back on the air distrubuto...

Re: installing a A/C cut out switch. I must have screwed up

Hi Briano, I put the a/c cut out switch in as you outlined and took the cab out for a test drive and it worked mostly. I could not get the fan to operate in the number 4 position. The number three position was the highest. Whereas it did before go into the no 4 position. And I also had troubl...

I have the same problem. I can't find a replacement. Any suggestions would be appreciated?

I also had a heck of a time getting to it. Took me quite a while. :)

Re: A gathering of parts sources

Great list for what I've found is new parts generally. I haven't moved into performance parts yet. I will use it if I need newer parts. :D I am just trying to get a stock part for a 1992 Cabriolet I know from all the contacts (alot on these lists) I've made my part has to come out of a salvage yard....
